ORIK's Physicians

Dr. Stephen Preston,
MD CM FRCSC
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Stephen Preston’s interest in musculoskeletal injuries began while he was a nationally and internationally ranked competitive swimmer, accumulating honours as a 5-time Academic All-Canadian, a 3-time First Team All-Canadian, and 5-time Second Team All-Canadian during his undergraduate studies. Following his athletic career, he attended McGill University in Montreal, where he obtained his medical degree from McGill Medical School in 2010. He continued to study the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions during his residency training at Western University in London, Ontario, where he was successfully named as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2015. During his residency training, Dr. Preston developed a particular interest in the management of degenerative conditions of the hip and knee. This led him to pursue an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the University of Toronto before accepting a position as a staff orthopaedic surgeon at Peterborough Regional Health Centre in July of 2016, where he has served as the Clinical Lead for the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery since January 2017.

Dr. Preston’s elective clinical practice involves the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative conditions of the hip and knee through primary and revision joint replacement surgery. In addition to lower extremity joint reconstruction, Dr. Preston also provides trauma care for extremity injuries and has a developing interest in the surgical and non-surgical management of lower extremity soft tissue conditions of the knee.

Dr. Preston’s commitment to evidence-based practice is evident through his multiple publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals. He has also presented many of these papers at numerous national and international symposia across North America. Dr. Preston remains dedicated to the use of evidence-based medicine to provide optimal care for his patients throughout Peterborough and the surrounding area.
