Dr. David Wasserstein,
MD MSc MPH FRCSC
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. David Wasserstein graduated medical school (MD) from the University of Toronto (2007) followed by a Master’s of Science (MSc) degree in laboratory sciences. In 2016, he completed a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Waterloo that focused on epidemiology and injury prevention. He attended the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program at the University of Toronto and graduated in 2012 when he was successfully called as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Wasserstein then completed two clinical fellowships – the first at the University of Toronto with a focus on sports medicine and trauma of the lower extremity, and the second at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. In 2014, Dr. Wasserstein was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and as a staff Surgeon with the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Wasserstein’s current clinical practice involves the orthopaedic care of lower extremity soft-tissue injuries, complex extremity trauma, and specialization in the diagnosis and treatment of the knee. He receives consultation requests and referrals from other Orthopaedic Surgeons all over Ontario for complex injuries of the knee and foot/ ankle. His sports medicine practice is augmented by his role as the Orthopaedic Consultant to Ryerson University Athletics, and the NBA Toronto Raptors/Raptors 905.

As an affiliate scientist and active researcher, his expertise exists within clinical research outcomes, epidemiology, and biomechanics. Currently, he has over 60 publications in peer-reviewed literature, won numerous national and international awards for his research, and regularly reviews manuscripts for the most prestigious orthopaedic journals. Dr. Wasserstein is tremendously dedicated and passionate about understanding and improving the care for bone and joint injuries.
